I was a ground pounder but have always loved the sea. As a kid I studied all about the Europe side of WW2 so when I joined the US Army I went to Germany I did see things that were left in the forests from the war forgotten but not by time. I play a on-line game called Deepolis which is all submarines, so when I came across-ed this site it caught my entrust. I have enjoyed every weekly news letter & now my search is on for more information. I guess that when you start a fire & give it some fuel it'll spread like a raging bull in a china shop. Mr. David Oearn I just want to say Thank you for all the work that you have done to put this together & in sending it out to us all.

Thanks a lot for the e-mails. I enjoyed and shared them with my family. There is an unproved history about a u-boat that was sunk near the Amatique bay in the Atlantic coast off Guatemala in 1944 by attack by a patrol plane based in Panama. Local fishermen say it is true, but there isn't any real fact, so this is maybe a fake.

I was a UH-1H Huey army helicopter pilot in Vietnam from July 1969 through July 1970. I certainly experienced my share of fear, and I could "appear" as courageous as any other army helicopter pilot in my troop. However, I cannot understand how these brave men of the World War II German U-Boat service could possibly summon the courage necessary to conduct combat operations from under the waves. 30,000 dead German submariners out of a total of 40,000 sub sailors who went to sea leads me to one conclusion. I conclude that from 1942 through May of 1945, U-Boats service was nearly a certain death assignment.

Sir,
I was enjoying this site. Maybe I can suggest you, that as site for the Japanese submarines, you will give type of the submarine, ext to its number. Like M/V BOR was torpedoed by U 137. which type it was ?.
Anyhow I consider this site as a source of data for the people not taking part in WW2, and as memory for those who died in it, regardless of their nationality, and political orientation.
Once again congratulations for this site.
