An excellent reference site not only for objective students of German history and/or World War II, but also for anyone interested in seeing, finding and/or helping to preserve the surviving boats and memorials to the ubootwaffe.

Never forget!

My father served with the Royal Navy on HMS Bickerton (Captain (turbo-electric ) Class)during WWII. During escort duty (5th ESCORT GROUP) of convoy JW59 to Russia she was torpedoed (GNAT Acoustic torpedo) by U-354 (Type VIIC) in the Barent Sea on 22nd August 1944. The U-354 (Kapitanleutnant Hans-Jurgen STHAMER) was eventually sunk by HMS Vigilant.
My father left the UK after the war for Australia and joined the Australian Army (27 years) serving in Vietnam War 1969-70. He currently lives in Canberra ACT Australia. I joined the Royal Australian Navy (Fleet Air Arm) 1964-86.
I am currently building a 5 foot long radio control model of a type VII U-Boat, so as you can see, your information has been absolutely top class for me - thank you very much.

Thanks for the wonderful site.
I am a WWII history fanatic, with over thirty years of repairing, preserving, and refitting submarines. Currently I am tasked as an instructor to help train the next generation of submarine technicians and craftsmen. Working here in the most modern facility of the US Navy on the most powerful submarines of the fleet, the Submariners of the past are a quite inspiration.
Their skill, bravery, and mystique transcend time, leaving a standard of excellence for those who follow to aspire to.
Your wonderful site should help inspire this new generation of apprentices, technicians, and seamen.
It sure works for this old dog.
May God care for those on eternal patrol.

Would you have any photos of the U-boat batteries? I have never seen any pictures of them.

I really appreciate your website. I spend literally hours reading everything in your site.

I share your interest and appreciate your efforts!

I belong to the U.S. Navy League, and have had a ride on SPRINGFIELD, SSN-761 - I'm an honorary crewmember! I've also been to Bletchely a couple of times, and study Turing and ULTRA. That effort is still not fully appreciated - I've written to you about that.

So, I really do appreciate your efforts and info.

BTW, we had submarines as well, and I would suggest that you broaden your scope to other underwater services and systems as well . . . .

Thank you,

Eric
