I am a former U.S. Navy Submarine sailor. Also I am one of about nine former submarine sailors who are volunteer docents with the U-505. Also we have a number of other volunteers who served in the U.S. Military but not on submarines. Your material added to are knowledge base. A number of us have also created binders of material. I have at least two. One of them deals with U-505 material and American submarine stuff. The other deals with Enigma and codebreaking. This comes in handy when we come in contact with visitors who looking for more information on that part of the Battle of the Atlantic.

The site is excellent. It is all I would have hoped for.Fills in a whole world of information lacking in the mainstream. My Uncle was torpedoed twice as a merchant seaman, but never once moaned at the "injustice" He was a realist. Sadly lacking today.
I was a MN officer for 17 years: I can't imagine what he & others went through. The horrors for all involved are too much to be forgotten. Keep up the good work.
Don't let the memory fade, the lesson goes on.

I really enjoyed ALL of this site! The Battle of the Atlantic is one of my favorite History subjects. I grew up around Merchant Shipping and am now serving as an Engineer in the Canadian Merchant Marine. I am too young to have been involved in this action, but have met many Veterans of the Battle of the Atlantic at our Merchant Marine Ceremonies during Remembrance Day ceremonies. Listening to their stories is simply an experience to behold!
Please keep up the great work, and thanks so much!!

COngratulations for this excelent site. The informations are very interesting end educative, some of them impossible to be found on other sources. It would be very interesting to put a secction about real life of u-boat crew, with survivors testimonials and memoryies, fragments of u-boat logs, etc...
I wish you a lot o f succes in developing this site.

Sou submarinista aposentado, gostei muito da página na internet, mas gostaria de saber sobre as escolas de submarinistas. Onde ficavam, qual a duração do curso de formação, como era o treinamento da tripulação. Muito obrigado!

I was a ground pounder but have always loved the sea. As a kid I studied all about the Europe side of WW2 so when I joined the US Army I went to Germany I did see things that were left in the forests from the war forgotten but not by time. I play a on-line game called Deepolis which is all submarines, so when I came across-ed this site it caught my entrust. I have enjoyed every weekly news letter & now my search is on for more information. I guess that when you start a fire & give it some fuel it'll spread like a raging bull in a china shop. Mr. David Oearn I just want to say Thank you for all the work that you have done to put this together & in sending it out to us all.

Thanks a lot for the e-mails. I enjoyed and shared them with my family. There is an unproved history about a u-boat that was sunk near the Amatique bay in the Atlantic coast off Guatemala in 1944 by attack by a patrol plane based in Panama. Local fishermen say it is true, but there isn't any real fact, so this is maybe a fake.
